Plans Dropped for Five New Coal Power Plants

Dynegy, a US power company, dropped its joint project with LS Power to build five new coal-fired power plants last Friday. Dynegy had previously been labeled “the next King Coal” by citizens and environmental groups since it was proposing the largest expansion of coal-power of any company in the US. Read more here.

From a stewardship investing perspective, this is a positive development, and it signals a new awareness among power companies about climate change and the potential for greenhouse gas regulation.
